EV Charging at High Beach
No EV charging point here yet — but there are options nearby, and we’re working on a proper solution.
Charging from the domestic supply isn’t permitted — not sockets, extension leads or adaptors. It’s not about being difficult. There are three real reasons, and they all matter.
Why domestic charging isn’t allowed
- Fire risk. Domestic sockets can’t handle the sustained load. This is the main reason — and it’s not one we can make exceptions to.
- Wiring damage. It can burn out the consumer unit. Repair costs are recoverable from the Accidental Damage Deposit.
- Insurance voided. Charging from a domestic socket invalidates the property insurance for the entire stay — not just for anything EV-related.

Both are a short drive away. Check Zap-Map for live availability before you leave.
Brean Leisure Park
The closest option — public chargers on site, just up the coast.
Tesco, Burnham-on-Sea
Around 10 minutes away. Useful if you want to charge and shop at the same time.

A dedicated charger is coming
We’re looking into a proper, installed EV charging point for the property. When it’s in place, it’ll be listed on the booking page — so you’ll be able to plan ahead.
Meter readings: We check the meter on every changeover. Unusually high usage consistent with vehicle charging will be charged back — we’d always get in touch before deducting anything. Guests found charging from a domestic socket will be asked to leave without a refund; this is a condition of both our house rules and the holidaycottages.co.uk booking terms. With the nearby options available, it shouldn’t come to that.
